Icaresque is named after Icarus, the boy who flew too close to the sun. He flew too high, but not out of ambition. His father Daedalus was the ambitious one. The architect of the Minotaur’s Labyrinth built wings out of wax so that he could defy a king, and gravity itself. Icarus used the wings and flew where his delight took him. This is icaresque writing, flawed perhaps, pointless maybe, stupid at times, but always soaring in pursuit of excitement under a burning sun that would take it down. Burn away, readers, burn away.
